From "Globe" (the same magazine that ran the article mentioned in CAYA on page 283), April 2 1996:
"Grizzled Punk Rocker's Shocking Claim:
Courtney Love offered me $50G to kill Kurt Cobain!"

"A punk musician says wild rocker Courtney Love offered him $50,000 to kill her husband Kurt Cobain.

Bald, menacing Eldon Hoak claims the 31-year-old grunge queen put out a gangland style contract on Cobain-just months before the troubled Nirvana star was found shot to death in his Seattle home.

'She wanted me to be her hit man,' insists the 47-year-old veteran of the cult group The Mentors.

'It was a straight offer-I murder Kurt Cobain, she gives me $50,000. I was tempted. I'm not a wealthy man and $50,000 is a lot of money. This wasn't a joke. Courtney was dead serious,' claims the rocker. 'She told me she didn't care how I did it-she just wanted her husband dead.' Courtney's spokesman denies the punkers charges.

'Anyone who wants to know what happened to Kurt Cobain should talk to the coroner in Seattle and the D.A. in Seattle,' says Pat Kingsley. 'Courtney was not involved.'

Seattle cops say there's nothing new in the case-and they still consider Cobain's death to be a suicide.

But Hoak, who says he met Courtney when she came to one of his band's concerts 10 years ago, insists she made the deadly proposal in December 1993 at an L.A. record and poster store called The Rock Shop.

'That's where I hang out when I've got nothing else to do,' says the musician, known by the nickname El Duce. 'I've known Courtney for 10 years. She knew where to find me. She walked straight up to me and said, 'Duce, I need you to do me a favor.' She said Kurt was so fed up with her hanging around with other guys that he was going to divorce her. He was worth millions and Courtney was determined to keep the money,' claims the rocker. 'With the marriage about to end, she knew the only way was to have Kurt killed and inherit his money.'
