Kurt and Courtney
Riveting, unnerving and yet surprisingly
funny, this documentary tells the story of
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's death. But it
also chronicles the transformation of his
widow, Courtney Love, from drug-taking punk
heroine to glamorous Hollywood star.
Director Nick Broomfield (Heidi Fleiss:
Hollywood Madam) never gets near Love.
Protected lawyers, corporate contracts and
a powerful publicity firm, Love (and her
opposition to the film), becomes the main
subject.
Broomfield dismisses the conspiracy
therories, but what he uncovers about Cobain's
lifestyle and struggles are so disconcerting
that it's easy to believe that Cobain (or
anyone in his situation) would have wanted
to commit suicide. That's the film's most
shocking revelation.
(Unrated, but with nudity, preferences
to drug use, profanity)
